While you’re building or remodeling your home, don’t forget to take into consideration the area surrounding it. What matters most to you as a homeowner when you look outside? More than likely it’s the most beautiful view possible of palm trees, plantings and a well-manicured lawn. A well-designed yard is not only pleasing to the eye, but also adds curb appeal and increased value to your investment. What does it take, then to achieve it? You can start the ideas rolling with this easy list of tips for landscaping in Florida courtesy of Landscapingnetwork.com. From in the ground to on the ground, your yard has the potential to look amazing.

Get your start on the right foot with a certified landscape architect. Certified landscape architects, says, Study.com, have a combination of experience and education in landscape architecture, and have passed a licensure examination. (Licensure is sponsored by the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB), which also offers certification.)

PLANTINGS

Once you’ve hired a certified professional to design your yard, you can work with them to first choose the most effective irrigation system for its needs, one that can be easily adjusted to suit our tropical Florida climate of heat, rain and often months-long drought. Consider which plants you’d like to see out your window as well as those that work in a sustainable setting to maximize their growth and health. A myriad assortment of beautiful native plantings exists, from succulents, orchids and bromeliads, to hedge flowers like fichus, cocoplums and Indian Hawthorne with its beautiful pink flowers. Then there are the many varieties of palm trees, including the fanlike Bismarck palm and stately royal and coconut palms that reach a potential 60-100 feet in height.

GRASS OPTIONS

Think about how your time will be spent outside. Do you plan to relax on the patio or play with the kids/grandkids on the lawn? Soft, silky Bahia grass welcomes bare feet, while stiffer St. Augustine grass is a more sustainable, easy to care for option. Both do very well in our tropical climate with proper care.

Oftentimes in a home remodel, the garage may be an afterthought. Before you realize it, the place designed mainly to store your cars and tools has become a clearinghouse for overflow. Lately, however, the garage has been doing some growing up, recently receiving recognition from the New York Times as the “final frontier in home renovation.”

Owners are discovering that the room surrounding their four-wheeled investments has as much potential to reflect lifestyle, personality and character as the rest of the house; a garage remodel becoming a chance to not just showcase their cars but an opportunity to create a warm, inviting hangout area and/or auto-centric entertainment spot.

“The showroom garage is becoming one of those amenities that the high-end buyer is looking for,” said Mitchell Cal for MansionGlobal.com. “For many buyers, the garage is just as important as the kitchen or living room. They want a space that is just as beautiful as the main living areas of the home.” Architect Paul Maki concurs, indicating that the typical garage redo features radiant in-floor heating, a concrete or epoxy floor, sheetrock walls with wood or metal wainscoting, custom cabinetry, a high-end door and decorative lighting.

THE BASICS

Let’s just get it out there: the showroom garage will be pretty much man cave central. Start the process with the most obvious things for your Florida space: extending your house HVAC system into the garage for effective air conditioning and humidity control. Decoist recommends that properly upgrading the walls is also essential, not just for climate control but acoustics as well. Go for a good insulation and add a dry wall on top of it all to keep the Florida heat at bay. Since insulation extends to the ceiling and the garage door, you might want to plug any cracks and crevices to more securely seal the area.

While you’re at it, a floor upgrade from the concrete slab is also a good idea. A good non-slip interlocking floor tile can instantly offer your garage a showroom look, whether you go traditional checkered-style or a single color.

WIRE IT UP

Since you’re creating a space where you’ll be spending a solid chunk of time, no doubt you’ll be bringing your electronics with you. As you plan out your garage remodel, take into account additional electrical wiring and Wi-Fi capabilities.

We’d love to talk about ideas for your garage remodel! With close to 20 years of remodeling and construction experience, J. Sweet Construction offers an educated viewpoint with honesty and integrity every time.

FALL/WINTER 2019 FASHION TRENDS

It cannot be fall already! Weren’t we just enjoying a poolside barbecue? And don’t get us started on anything pumpkin spice. Since there’s no stopping time, let’s get onboard and look forward to what will be going on our beautiful selves over the next few months. No place better than our Truer than True Fashionista friends at Vogue to weigh in.

The return of street style as well as the instant documentation of it on social media has led to fashion heading from the runways to downtown at almost lightning speed, Vogue relays. Minis are heading even further up, while everything else is just getting…bigger. Yes, maximalism returns in major form this season. Into fur? Make sure those fibers are longer. Thinking about a new A-line skirt? Wider, baby. Colors? As bright as humanly possible, please. And those prints just better be spotted a mile away.

COATS

From the outside in, the anti-statement statement coat has arrived just in time to usher in those cooler fall temps. Fur, consistently the dominant outerwear trend, has finally made way for the cleaner cut looks of a traditional fall coat. Fur will always have its place, but this season’s most photogenic coats are either long and lean with a bold color to boot, or vividly printed in bright patterns ranging from florals to geometric shapes and animal prints. If you’re a staunch fur-fan, you’ll be thrilled to find the Tedgirl oversized alpaca/wool-blend coat by Max Mara. Its cool blue color instantly lights up the room. Inside, you’ll be tempted to keep it on and curl up inside it for a nap!

Marie Claire lines up a few of this season’s coat choices as well. The Hazina double-breasted trench-type coat by Malene Birger gives a fresh look to the traditional button design that disappears under two white lapels, and its olive tone goes with virtually everything. On the print side, Prada’s metallic brocade coat shines in a gorgeous bright green print. And don’t fret, puffer-coat fans! They’re still here! DKNY’s asymmetrical hooded puffer can be easily packed for that weekend jaunt.

PISTACHIO FOR LIFE! (OR AT LEAST THE NEW FEW MONTHS)

As tons of color trends like red, orange and purple swept the fall runways, pistachio consistently topped the list. Head-to-toe looks in this True Fashionista off-green hue just plain work. Designers like Sally Lapointe and Jil Sanders are happily drowning in it and so are we. Its as addicting as the nut itself, without having to work through the shell to get to the prize! (Who What Wear)

GET REBELLIOUS

As the 2019 world can be quite the scary place, it’s no surprise then that rebellious looks are on the map in a big way this fall, harking back to the punk rock and new wave movements of the late 70’s and early 80’s. Still, there’s an air of modern-day hope. It’s the look that never entirely left, complete with combat boots, everything black, mohawks, and…pretty lace dresses, serving to prove that sometimes, opposites really do attract. Alexander McQueen and Preen by Thorton Bragazzi are just a couple examples of gorgeous black lace creations to add to your collection. Bragazzi takes it a step further, adding fishnet stockings to an ensemble that’s at once a throwback and forward-facing.

PERIOD PIECES

Apparently reliving the past is a hot trend this year. As its not enough to relive your college days, the runways also showcased a return to ballroom gowns with pretty puffy sleeves, capes and Victorian neck ruffles so out of control it nearly hid the heads of the models wearing them. It’s a True Fashionista way to enjoy the classics with a twist.

LAYER UP

Go ahead, layer all those knits on top of each other. Think sweater-sweater, scarf over sweater, whatever! The possibilities are endless and completely up-to-date. What? You don’t even feel like getting up once there’s a chill in the air? Trends this season are pointing to quilting in everything from trousers to evening gowns. Patchwork is wrapped into this trend as well, so the bed could just come with you to the coffeemaker. Coach and Rachel Comey both made a big splash on the patchwork tip this year. Before you say no way, just go with it. They did.

Find a host of Coach, Burberry, and more from top designers for your fall and winter ensembles at True Fashionistas Resale, both online or in-store. Get your style on at a great price year-round.

WINE ROOMS

If you enjoy the taste of an exceptional bottle of wine, no doubt you’ve dreamt of dedicating space in your house to the collecting, storage and display of your vintage favorites. Obviously, here in Florida the standard basement wine “cellar” is not an option. No worries, however, architects have devised some great designs for those of us in the tropical environs who demand and appreciate the finer things in aged beverages. Quick term definition here, thank you Wikipedia: An above-ground wine cellar is often called a wine room, while a small wine cellar (fewer than 500 bottles) is sometimes termed a wine closet.

Florida residential wine cellars are designed to not only store your finest wines in ideal conditions but to also add value and beauty to your home. In addition to keeping your wines safe, your wine room must also entice your guests since this room is on the main floor and typically well within view when guests are visiting.

IT STARTS WITH THE DOOR

An important aspect of an attractive home wine cellar (Yes it’s just a room. See above.) is a well-designed entry door that also complements your existing home decor.

HISTORY OF VALENTINO GARAVANI

“Red has guts…. deep, strong, dramatic. A geranium red. A Goya red …to be used like gold for furnishing a house … for clothes, it is strong, like black or white.” ~~Valentino

Ah the color red, we just love it so much. Red, the color of blood, a symbol of life, is powerful enough to encourage those in the fashion world to embrace it wholeheartedly. From virtually every pair of Christian Louboutin’s shoes, to the industry in general, red boldly makes its mark every season. No surprise then, that this True Fashionista color is also a signature muse of fashion icon Valentino Garavani. His red dresses are an institution to themselves, having been an integral part in his collections since their debut in 1959, when Valentino (heretofore known by first name ONLY, thankyouverymuch) began his fashion industry takeover with a distinctive brand of glitterati chic, cultivating a signature style that is now a timeless, ubiquitous sight on red carpets. Inspired by old Hollywood glamour, Valentino’s gowns and dresses are crafted of ultra-feminine materials like lace, silk and chiffon, and often feature delicate embroidery.

Valentino, birthname Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani (No wonder he dropped the other three names!) was born in Voghera, Italy May 11, 1932. Drawn to fashion design from a young age, he completed his formal training in Paris at École des Beaux-Arts and the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, while also apprenticing under local designers that included his aunt Rosa and the salons of Jean Dessès and Guy Laroche. After completing his education, Valentino returned to Italy to start his own line in Rome, as aforementioned, in 1959. The following year, he met Giancarlo Giammetti in Rome, an introduction that would change his life forever.

Valentino and Giammetti quickly became partners both romantically and professionally, and together they developed Valentino SpA into an internationally recognized brand that launched in 1962 at the Pitti Palace in Florence. This show would cement Valentino’s reputation as one of the True Fashionista designers of his day. Soon enough, socialites and aristocratic women from around the world were coming to him for his captivating and intricately detailed gowns and sensational couture creations.

Rest assured the attraction had much to do with his designs using that iconic shade of red, which btw is a trademarked combination of 100% magenta, 100% yellow and 10% black. You know you wanted to know! The color was reportedly inspired by the opera in Barcelona. As a teenager, Valentino would marvel at the way women seated in the opera house balconies seemed like baskets of red flowers. He’s also been quoted as remarking that red is the only color worthy of competing with black and white. We’re just full of True Fashionista factoids today.

In 1967 Valentino had reached a pinnacle of international fame and Italian couture, having been honored with the prestigious Neiman Marcus Fashion Award while also boasting a client list including some of the world’s best dressed women like Queen Paola of Belgium, movie stars Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn, as well as Jackie Kennedy. Kennedy in particular was such a fan that in 1964 she ordered six dresses in black and white. She also commissioned him to design the wedding dress for her marriage to Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis in 1968.

Over the course of his career, Valentino’s primary lines have been Valentino, Valentino Garavani, Valentino Roma and R.E.D. Valentino. Upon retirement in 1998 Valentino and Giammetti sold their company for many millions to Italian conglomerate HdP, then sold the Valentino brand to Marzotto Apparel in 2002. The pair maintain homes around the world that are filled with art. Valentino also has a penchant for dogs, particularly pugs, and owns many of the lovable creatures. Something tells us they all wear beautiful True Fashionista red sweaters on cold days. Our thanks to Biography.com and Awhitecarousel.com for the input.

The post HISTORY OF VALENTINO GARAVANI first appeared on Dragon Horse Ad Agency.

Most people think of a window’s function as simply to allow light and air into the home. Here in Florida, windows need to do a little more than that: it must allow the sun’s light to pass through, but not its heat; it must keep cool conditioned air inside, but not allow condensation to form on the surface of the glass; it must not allow hot, humid outside air to leak into the home in summer, nor allow warm conditioned air to leak out of the house in winter; and, as Hurricanes Andrew, Irma and other significant storms have demonstrated, windows are traditionally a key point of entry for storm-force winds, hail, rain, and wind-borne debris, so ideally a Florida window must also be impact-resistant. (University of Florida IFAS Extension).

SAFETY

For complete protection from the elements, the two most common (and strongest) window frame materials in southern Florida are aluminum and steel. Wood also offers good insulating value, but needs to be regularly painted. Over time, wood is also susceptible to warping.

Now let’s discuss the rest of the window, i.e. the all-important glass that sits within. SentryGlas Plus (SGP), according to Juan Rodriguez for The Balance Small Business, is a technology created by DuPont which consists of an interlayer of proprietary inoplast material that sits between panes of glass. SentryGlas is lighter in weight, stronger, and less susceptible to yellowing over time than other storm-proof options, with an SGP thickness layer of 0.90 inches. Although these windows are more common for commercial windows, they can be ordered for residential purposes for greater protection of your investment. SGP is so strong, in fact, that the technology is also used in bomb- or bullet-proof glass. This also makes SGP among the most expensive hurricane-resistant windows, but of course completely worth it.

Also up there in quality window design is the process where liquid glass resins are permanently applied to the glass by a process that uses UV light as a catalyst to cure and harden it. In some versions, a PET film is also added to make the glass even stronger. Liquid glass resin windows are especially popular here in Florida for their durability and impact resistance in the event of a hurricane.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

In our tropical climate, not only do you want impact-resistant windows but also ones that can cut down the amount of heat-inducing sunlight that gets in. Hard to believe, but there are also those rare days in Florida that can get chilly. Typically, those days are also accompanied by a strong breeze or wind. Your windows therefore should also be able to keep out the elements at these times. The Efficient Windows Collaborative recommends checking the ENERGY STAR® specifications and ensure that the windows you select meet or exceed energy code requirements for southwest Florida.

For exact specifications you can try the computer simulation program called RESFEN. This program allows you to compare window options by calculating performance based on utility rates for our climate, house design and window design options.

STYLE

There are several window styles that are popular at the moment. Modern architecture styles in southern Florida have been leaning toward Refined Coastal over the last several years, featuring high vaulted ceilings for optimal air flow. Homes will often feature floor to ceiling windows and quite often a skylight or two to complement the design while offering views of the beautiful Florida landscape. Several southern Florida-based window dealers/installers offer designer fixed windows that will add a luxurious look to any room in the house while also providing optimal energy efficiency and impact resistance. Some of the more popular manufacturers of these windows include Andersen, Pella, Simonton Windows and CGI Windows.

With close to 20 years of high-end construction behind us, J. Sweet Construction can offer an educated opinion on the best window choice for your southwest Florida home. Honesty and integrity are behind every project we do.

The post Know Your Window Options first appeared on Dragon Horse Ad Agency.

PARISIENNE CHIC

When it comes to fashion, we quite often turn to our True Fashionista French friends for inspiration, and with good reason: They’ve got quite the track record, having made an industry out of fashion since the 17thcentury, says WhatParis. We’re turning the Face àFaces on Paris for the moment in order to fully understand the definition of “Parisienne chic”, and what it takes to rock it.

LESS IS BETTER

Sherry at Save Spend Splurge shares that Parisienne chic has oft been described as using a bit of restraint, of all things. Leave the flash and the glitz at home, keeping it simple and refined. Coco Chanel perhaps said it best, “Before leaving the house, a lady should look in the mirror and remove one accessory.” For example, wear that adorable dress, simple pair of sandals and no accessories. Let the cuteness stand on its own. And done! Maybe you have a great graphic t-shirt you’d like to show off. Wear it with some jeans, unassuming shoes like ballet flats, and throw your hair into a simple chignon. Add a light jacket if you choose, and that’s all you need. Less is better. This IS Paris, after all.

The pieces in your wardrobe that generally fit into this description would, no surprise, be mostly solids, barely a print and mainly neutral colors. Keep your outfits monochromatic, no mixing or matching of prints or colors. And your makeup? Minimal, baby. If you do lipstick, don’t even think about the eyes.

HISTORY

What Paris nails it here: Fashion has always existed at the crossroads of art and consumerism and never more so than in today’s society. Paris fashion has always been at the center of it all. We have King Louis XIV’s court to blame, or rather, thank. His nobleness was big on being the center of attention, so no surprise that the luxury goods industry became a royal commodity in his court and country. It was around the 1670’s that fashion press began as well in order to keep the masses informed of the exciting goings-on. They were even the ones to establish fashion “seasons” and the changing of styles.

In the late 19thand early 20thcenturies, the French fashion industry literally exploded, which coincidentally included the founding of Voguein 1892. Enter Ms. Chanel in 1925, followed by Christian Dior, Paco Rabanne and Pierre Cardin, to name but a few. They lost momentum a bit by the mid-1940’s with the focus drifting over to London. However, when Yves Saint Laurent hit the Parisian scene in the 1960’s with his “pret-a-porter” (ready-to-wear) line, Hubert de Givenchy and Pierre Balmain opened fashion houses not long after, and the eyes of the fashion world returned in droves. This move opened up high fashion to the masses, giving the general public the opportunity to get a real grasp on what it meant to capture and reflect Parisienne chic.

Although other cities like Milan, Tokyo. New York and London have carved their way into the fashion scene ove the years, Paris holds reign as foreign designers like Karl Lagerfield (Chanel) and Marc Jacobs (LVMH) make their home there.

JUST THIS ACCESSORY

Let’s not forget the handbag to round out your Parisienne chic wardrobe. Just like simple, minimalist outfits, you want to go for logo-free, enduring purses and totes in order to effectively round out the look. Keep the colors neutral like navy, black or brown. Choose your style. Parisiennes are even carrying leather folded clutches and wearing crossbodies like bosses.

Think less is more, and you’ll nail Parisienne chic. Shop True Fashionista either in our Naples, Florida store or online for a constantly updated selection of the chic-est pieces to get you in that mindset, or maybe even get you ready for your upcoming Paris trip. Bon voyage!

REMODELING FOR HURRICANE PROTECTION

The end of summer means many things, like back to school and holiday planning, but here in Florida, its also the time that the tropics really heat up and the likelihood of our beautiful area being hit by a hurricane increases tenfold. Fortunately, a combination of experience and engineering has enabled the construction industry to build homes that are able to withstand the potential destruction of a Category 5 hurricane, in order to keep you and your investment safe and protected during a storm.

A series of natural disasters in the 1990’s along with the growing complexity of building construction regulation in Florida’s fast-growing markets signaled a need for a statewide building code system, the first of which was enacted in 1998. As of March 1, 2002, the Florida Building Code (FBC), which is developed and maintained by the Florida Building Commission, supersedes all local building codes, and is updated every three years. The most recent update was in 2017, just before Hurricane Irma.

WINDOWS

If you have an older home, updating your windows to meet current hurricane codes should be of utmost importance. Your windows are the easiest way that destructive winds and rain can enter your home, something Florida found out in a really big way in 1992 with Category 5 Hurricane Andrew. Thankfully, there are now several options available to protect your investment besides good ol’ plywood boards. The Florida Building Code (FBC) requires windows to be impact-resistant or protected from winds of 170 mph or greater if located within one mile of the coast and 180 mph or greater inland, says the University of Florida IFAS Extension.

Impact-resistant windows and doors featuring extra-strong framing and glazing that sandwich a layer of plastic laminate between two layers of glass will provide the protection needed, and in certain cases there are Florida wind insurance incentives for choosing them. Given the improvements in window technologies, it is now possible to buy impact-resistant and/or energy-efficient windows for your home. Once hit by a projectile, the glass fractures but the object doesn’t penetrate. These windows can be expensive and need replacement after being hit, but they provide the best protection, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

SHUTTERS

Shutters are also a proven way to protect your windows and doors and are typically a less expensive option. Choose from motor-driven, manually operated, or the ones you put up yourself by hooking into a permanently-placed strip along the outside windowsill. Shutters are most popular in accordion or swinging styles. Various types of window and shutter protection are compared here by the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

GARAGE DOORS

Although the typical garage door is seemingly large, heavy and impenetrable, it still must be up to code. Your remodel should include replacing it if your current one isn’t. Keep in mind that if wind, rain and debris find a way into your garage, you’ve still got a costly nightmare cleanup on your hands. Code-approved garage doors include stanchions to hold the frame to the ground and the header, says HGTV. In the past, says Florida-based garage door installation company The Doorman, wind-resistant garage doors needed to be built in a way that required you to install beams and supports every time a hurricane or tropical storm occurred and then remove them to use the door again. Newer garage doors, however, have adequate support structures designed into the door which can resist both positive and negative pressures created by a hurricane or other wind-related events.

ROOFING

If your remodel includes a new roof, be sure to consider storm-resistant metal roofing. Dark shingles can loosen over time due to the Florida heat and white shingles are more susceptible to mold growth.

By keeping these recommendations a top priority in your Florida home remodel, you’ll have a beautiful home that will also stand a chance against the next Big One. Based in Southwest Florida for close to 20 years, J. Sweet Construction is fully versed in building and remodeling homes that meet all Florida standards and Building Codes. We’ll help keep your home protected for many hurricane seasons to come.

HISTORY OF DOLCE AND GABBANA

It’s been said that Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana possess the True Fashionista ability of being able to mix periods and countries, masculine and feminine looks, fabrics and styles. They are one of the best examples of Italian ready-to-wear that exploded during the mid-1980s. Starting their company with less than $2,000, they are today considered “the most powerful designers of our time” and are among the richest men in Italy.

Fashion was a natural choice for Domenico Dolce. Born into a family clothing business in 1958 in Polizzi Generosa, Sicily, he worked here from childhood on. Stefano Gabbana had it a bit different. Born in Milan in 1962, his mother was a laundry service worker and his father worked in a printing factory.

The two met in Milan in 1980, where they designed for the same fashion house. In 1982 they opened a designer consulting studio, which in time became their own luxury Italian fashion house, Dolce & Gabbana. As part of Milan’s New Talent group, they were invited by fashion promoter Beppe Modenese to participate in its first runway show in 1985. Upon positive reception, they produced their first collection, called “Real Women”, the next year. They didn’t have enough money to hire models or provide accessories for them, so their model friends simply wore their personal items to complement the clothing. They even used a bed sheet that Dolce had brought from home as their stage curtain. (Wikipedia) Humble beginnings, indeed!

At a time when fashion saw women as executives in two-piece suits with padded shoulders, Dolce & Gabbana’s first collection included tulle and angora, twin sets in jersey lace, and soft, wide, extravagant skirts. Their favorite materials were crocheted lace, wool, and silk, exemplified by their knitwear line launched in 1987. In 1989 the Dolce & Gabbana beachwear and lingerie lines were launched. Beginning in 1988 they took production of their ready-to-wear line back home to Domenico Dolce’s family-owned atelier in Legnano, Milan, where the first Dolce & Gabbana men’s collection was created in 1990.

In 1992 the company launched their first fragrance, Dolce & Gabbana. An instant and ongoing success, Dolce & Gabbana have continued to annually release fragrances and colognes for men and women. Fragrances.bg enthuses, “Dolce & Gabbana’s perfumes are a true embodiment of the Mediterranean luxury and Italian sophistication. They offer an impressive luxurious collection of fragrances both for men and for women that captivate the essence of the fashion brand. Their men’s perfumes are masculine, charismatic, and elegant while their women’s fragrances are exceptionally feminine and sensual.”

As if Dolce & Gabbana weren’t already a household name, in 1990 they acquired a fan named Madonna, who ordered from their New York showroom a guêpière (corset) made of gemstones and a jacket to wear at Cannes to launch her film Truth or Dare: In Bed with Madonna by Alek Keshishian (1990). This was followed by an order for 1500 costumes created for her famous world tour, “The Girlie Show”. They also dressed Madonna for the album Music in 2001, and in 2010 the trio released an exclusive line of sunglasses called MDG. Many Hollywood A-listers are True Fashionista Dolce & Gabbana fans as well, such as Brad Pitt, Beyoncé Knowles, Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek.

In 1994 they launched the youthful, street-style-inspired D&G label, and for their tenth anniversary in 1996, they published Ten Years of Dolce & Gabbana, encapsulating their most important advertising images and texts.

Love to Know shares that “Dolce and Gabbana are considered the inventors of a Mediterranean style that draws its inspiration from the Sicily of Luchino Visconti’s 1963 film The Leopard and the women of Italian realism, sensual and austere like Anna Magnani, to whom they dedicated a collection whose key element was the 1940s slip.”

For a men’s show in 2003, Dolce & Gabbana took inspiration from contemporary soccer stars, showing their ability once again to successfully mix time periods, masculine and feminine looks, fabrics and styles. Not surprisingly, they have designed the uniforms and off-field attire for A.C. Milan men’s soccer since 2004, followed by signing on with other teams shortly thereafter.

In January 2016, the company started a high-end fashion line aimed at True Fashionista Muslim women featuring a collection of hijabs and abayas printed with daisies, lemons and roses.

Branching their brand even further, in 2017 Dolce & Gabbana collaborated with Italian brand Smeg to launch a line of colorfully decorated kitchen appliances called “Sicily is My Love”, a Made in Italy project. Each design tells a story of Sicily’s culture and history. Starting with a line of 100 unique, hand painted refrigerators, the next year offerings extended to smaller products such as toasters, citrus juicers, stand mixers and blenders.

“When we design it’s like a movie,” says Domenico Dolce. “We think of a story and we design the clothes to go with it.” They claim to be more concerned about creating the best, most flattering clothes than sparking trends, once admitting that they wouldn’t mind if their only contribution to fashion history was a black bra (Dolce & Gabbana 2007/Wikipedia).

We can’t wait to see the next True Fashionista inspiration that moves these two!
